Sonic Comet Edition
About the Game
Sonic Comet Edition is a fan-made ROM hack based on Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. The project was created by BCasais and was first shown as a beta during the Sonic Hacking Contest 2017. The hack focuses on redesigned stages, palette changes, and custom presentation while preserving the core gameplay of the original Sonic the Hedgehog.
โ๏ธ A Different Look for Sonic's First Adventure
Instead of changing only character sprites, Sonic Comet Edition revises several visual elements throughout the game.
The hack includes:
- New color palettes
- Minor graphic edits
- Renamed zones
- Custom music
- Redesigned stage layouts
These changes give the original game a different presentation while keeping the classic Genesis style.
๐ด Familiar Zones With New Designs
The project focuses heavily on level design.
Early public versions of the hack redesigned Green Hill Zone and Marble Zone, introduced new zone names, and included an additional custom zone for the demo release. Later updates continued expanding the project.
As in the original game, you still:
- Run through side-scrolling stages
- Collect rings
- Defeat Badniks
- Search for alternate routes
- Reach the Goal Plate at the end of each Act
๐ฎ Classic Sonic Controls
Sonic's core movement remains based on the original Sonic the Hedgehog.
You still use familiar actions such as:
- Running
- Jumping
- Rolling
- Collecting rings
- Defeating enemies
The emphasis is on exploring redesigned stages rather than learning new gameplay mechanics.
๐จ What Makes Comet Edition Different?
