• Underground: Explore cave areas with hidden blocks, coins, and narrow passages.
• Underwater: Swim through water-filled stages and avoid aquatic enemies.
• Castle: Cross dangerous fortresses with lava, fire bars, and Bowser encounters.

Your main objective is to reach the flagpole at the end of each regular stage. You must complete the castle areas to progress through the worlds.

The Mushroom Kingdom contains several enemies. Each one has different behaviour, so you need to choose your movements carefully.

• Goomba: A common enemy that walks along platforms. Jump on it to defeat it.
• Koopa Troopa: A turtle enemy that retreats into its shell when you stomp it.
• Piranha Plant: Appears from pipes and can hurt Mario on contact.
• Lakitu: Flies above the stage and throws Spiny enemies.
• Spiny: Has a spiked shell, so an ordinary jump from above cannot defeat it.
• Hammer Bros.: Throws hammers while it moves around the platforms.
• Bowser: The main enemy who guards the castles.

You can defeat many enemies with a well-timed jump. Fire Mario also gives you the ability to attack certain enemies with fireballs.

🏰 Discover Hidden Pipes and Secret Areas

Super Mario Bros. rewards you for checking your surroundings. Some pipes lead to underground bonus areas, while certain invisible blocks contain coins or useful items.

Keep an eye out for these secrets:

• Underground coin rooms.
• Pipes that lead to bonus areas.

World 1-2 contains a well-known Warp Zone. You can use it to reach later worlds without completing every intervening stage.
