Dark Super Sonic in Sonic 3 & Knuckles is a fan-made ROM hack based on the classic Sega Genesis game Sonic 3 & Knuckles. The original Sonic 3 & Knuckles includes Super Sonic and Hyper Sonic transformations, but it does not contain Dark Super Sonic. This darker form comes from fan interpretations inspired by a brief scene in the anime series Sonic X, where Sonic displays a temporary rage-powered transformation.
This ROM hack takes that concept and turns it into a playable feature. You still travel through the familiar zones of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, but Sonic gains a completely different appearance and set of effects after transforming.

๐ About Dark Super Sonic
Dark Super Sonic is not an official transformation from the classic Sega Genesis games.
The form originated from the anime series Sonic X. During one episode, Sonic becomes overwhelmed with anger after witnessing his friends being harmed. His body turns dark, and his power increases dramatically for a short period.
Because the transformation appeared only briefly, fans later created ROM hacks and modifications that expanded the concept into a playable form.

The story follows the events of Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Sonic pursues Doctor Eggman as he attempts to rebuild the Death Egg. Along the way, Sonic encounters Knuckles the Echidna, who initially believes Eggman's lies and stands in Sonic's path.
Angel Island, Hydrocity Zone, Marble Garden Zone, Carnival Night Zone, IceCap Zone, and many other stages remain unchanged from the original game.

The biggest difference is Sonic's appearance after transforming.
Depending on the version of the hack, you may see:
