About the Game
Welcome to this newest game from the SEGA universe, it features the fastest hedgehog on the planet! Welcome Sonic, Tails and Knuckles to this newest game called Sonic 2 Heroes, where you have to reach the finish line first.ย Each of these characters has different abilities and skills; use them accordingly to your benefit. Run, jump, fly, and do whatever you can to avoid all the obstacles that come in your way. But always be together if you intend to beat all the levels.
This is a fan-made ROM hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. Created by Team Hydra, the hack became one of the most popular Sonic ROM projects because it allows you to control three characters at the same time. Instead of playing as Sonic alone or Sonic and Tails, you travel through the adventure with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles working together as a team.
๐ฆ Three Heroes on the Same Adventure
The defining feature of Sonic 2 Heroes is its team-based gameplay.
Throughout the game, all three characters remain active:
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Miles "Tails" Prower
- Knuckles the Echidna
You can switch between them at any time during gameplay. The other two characters continue to follow the leader, similar to how Tails follows Sonic in the original Sonic 2.

Dr. Robotnik remains the main antagonist throughout the story.

One reason many Sonic fans continue to enjoy this hack is the freedom it provides.
At any moment, you can switch leaders and take advantage of different movement options.
Examples include:
- Flying with Tails to reach higher platforms
- Gliding across gaps with Knuckles
- Using Sonic's speed for momentum-based sections
This creates new possibilities even within stages that originally appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
๐ Shared Team Survival System
The three heroes share the same ring count and lives.
If the active leader gets hit without rings, another team member can take over as long as at least one character remains available.
This mechanic creates a different style of progression compared to the original game.
