Pokemon Project Pi
About the Game
Pokemon Project Pi is a Pokémon FireRed ROM hack that keeps the original Kanto story while improving game balance, Pokémon availability, and overall convenience. Created by MisledAngel, this completed ROM hack focuses on refining FireRed instead of replacing it with a brand-new adventure. You still travel across Kanto, collect Gym Badges, battle Team Rocket, and face the Elite Four, but your journey includes a carefully redesigned regional Pokédex and several modern gameplay improvements.
The hack respects the classic experience. It improves many small details without changing the identity that made Pokémon FireRed popular.
🗺️ Return to the Kanto Region
Project Pi follows the same storyline as Pokémon FireRed. Your adventure begins in Pallet Town, where Professor Oak gives you your first Pokémon. From there, you travel across Kanto, earn all eight Gym Badges, stop Team Rocket, and battle the Elite Four to become Champion.
⭐ A Redesigned Regional Pokédex
One of the biggest differences is the new 175-Pokémon regional Pokédex. Instead of limiting your choices to the original FireRed selection, Project Pi carefully includes Pokémon from multiple generations. Highlights include:
- 175 Pokémon available during the adventure
- Pokémon from later generations integrated into Kanto
- Revised wild encounters
- More team-building options
- Every Pokémon in the regional Pokédex obtainable during one playthrough
This approach gives you more flexibility when building your team while keeping the overall progression balanced.
⚔️ Battle Balance Receives Special Attention
Project Pi is not a difficulty hack. The creator designed the game to provide fair progression instead of extreme battles. You will notice improvements such as:
- Balanced trainer teams
- Better level progression
- Badge-based level caps
- Improved encounter design
- More consistent pacing throughout the journey
These changes encourage thoughtful team building without making every battle unnecessarily difficult.
🚀 Useful Quality-of-Life Improvements
Project Pi includes several modern features that reduce repetitive tasks. Some of the improvements include:
- Running Shoes available from the beginning
- Indoor running
- Optional auto-run
- Improved inventory management
- Black and White-style Repel system
- Updated interface elements
- Graphical refinements
🎯 Nuzlocke Support
If you enjoy Nuzlocke playthroughs, Project Pi includes optional support for this play style. Available features include:
- Nuzlocke Mode
- Rare Candies available from Poké Marts during Nuzlocke Mode
- Hall of Fame records your completion mode
- Additional rewards after completing the Pokémon League under specific conditions
🎨 Familiar Graphics With Small Improvements
Project Pi keeps the visual style of Pokémon FireRed. You will notice several polished elements, including:
- Updated sprites
- Cleaner menus
- Improved interface
- Refined graphical details
- Revised title screen in newer versions
🏆 Why Pokemon Project Pi Stands Out
Many FireRed ROM hacks focus on harder battles or entirely new stories.
Project Pi follows a different direction.
| Original FireRed | Pokemon Project Pi |
|---|---|
| Original Pokédex | 175-Pokémon regional Pokédex |
| Standard HM system | HM field moves without teaching them (latest versions) |
| Original encounter tables | Redesigned Pokémon distribution |
| Basic quality-of-life features | Multiple modern gameplay improvements |
| Original balance | Rebalanced progression |
This design makes Project Pi a strong choice if you want an upgraded version of FireRed instead of a completely different game.
💡 Helpful Tips

- Keep your team balanced before challenging Gym Leaders.
