Pokemon Synthesis Version
About the Game
Pokemon Synthesis Version is a fan-made Pokémon ROM hack in development for the Game Boy Advance style. The project comes from Lethesis and currently has a public Demo v0.1. The demo was released on August 5, 2026. It covers the first area of a planned four-area region and takes around four to five hours to complete.
The core idea is different from the usual Pokémon formula. Instead of following a fixed Gym route, you explore a large area, complete quests, and increase your local reputation. Once you earn enough respect from the local Gym Leader, you can challenge that Gym and move forward.
🗺️ A Pokémon Region With Four Large Areas
The planned region is divided into four major areas. You do not simply follow a narrow route from one Gym to the next. Each area is designed for more open exploration. Your progress comes from completing quests and increasing your reputation in the current area. That reputation eventually earns the local Gym Leader's respect and gives you access to the Gym battle.
⭐ Reputation Controls Your Gym Progress
Reputation is one of the main systems that separates Pokemon Synthesis Version from a conventional Pokémon adventure.
How it works
- Explore the current area.
- Complete quests.
- Complete side quests.
- Increase your local reputation.
- Earn the Gym Leader's respect.
- Challenge the Gym Leader.
- Progress toward the next area.
📜 Quests Give You More Reasons to Explore
The first demo contains main quests and side quests. One early tester reported spending around two hours in the first area while completing several quests and side quests. The same tester specifically praised the size of the exploration area and the amount of content available in the demo.
🧭 The Demo Is Only the Beginning
It is important to understand the current scope. Demo v0.1 contains the first area only. The complete project is planned around four major areas. The current demo therefore works as an introduction rather than a finished Pokémon campaign.
You can expect the full project to have substantially more content if the announced plans are completed, but there is no confirmed release date for that full version.
🐾 Pokémon From Generations I Through IX
The creator has confirmed that the planned full game will contain the complete Pokédex across all nine Pokémon generations. That is a major goal for a GBA-style ROM hack.
The project is also planned to include Mega Evolution. The creator confirmed this when community members asked about the Pokédex and Mega Evolution.
⚔️ Pokémon Battles Get Animated Idle Sprites
One of the most interesting technical features is the use of idle battle animations. Classic GBA Pokémon games normally use largely static Pokémon battle sprites. Pokemon Synthesis Version gives Pokémon movement while they wait during battle.
The creator explained that this system does not require a huge amount of extra ROM space. Instead, the project reuses animations that already exist in the game, along with a small number of custom animations. Pokémon are grouped into animation classes such as:
- Fish
- Birds
- Ground-based Pokémon
- Bouncing Pokémon
🧑🤝🧑 Your Character Options Are Still Expanding
The current demo has a male protagonist. The creator explained that the demo uses May's sprite as the rival, which is why the female protagonist option is not currently included. The planned full version will have:
- Male protagonist
- Female protagonist
- Exclusive sprites for both choices
🎒 EXP Share Can Be Turned On or Off
The project also includes an EXP Share option that you can switch on or off. The creator confirmed this directly in response to a community question. This gives you more control over how your team gains experience. If you prefer traditional experience management, you can turn the feature off. If you want a more convenient leveling system, you can use it.
🌍 Overworld Exploration Is a Major Focus
The first demo gives you a relatively large area to explore. An early tester described spending around two hours exploring the first area and working through quests. The tester also mentioned overworld Pokémon battles as one of the notable features.
That makes exploration more important than it is in a strictly linear Pokémon route structure. You have reasons to investigate the area instead of simply following the shortest path toward the next objective.
