Sonic 1 Tag Team Adventure

Sonic 1 Tag Team Adventure is a fan-made Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) game based on the original Sonic the Hedgehog. The project was created by NiteTSS. Instead of controlling Sonic alone, this hack lets Sonic and Tails travel together throughout the game, similar to later Genesis Sonic titles. Along with companion gameplay, the hack includes redesigned stages, updated visuals, custom music, and several gameplay improvements.

🦊 Sonic and Tails Work Together

One of the biggest changes is the addition of Tails as Sonic's partner.

Throughout the adventure:

• Sonic remains the main playable character.
• Tails follows Sonic as a companion.
• Tails can assist during platforming sections.
• The game uses the companion system inspired by later Sonic games.

This feature changes how the original Sonic the Hedgehog is experienced while keeping its familiar objective.

🌿 Changes Across the Adventure

The game modifies much more than the character roster.

Documented features include:

• Redesigned level layouts.
• Updated graphics.
• Custom palettes.
• New music.
• Sonic and Tails adventure together.
• Gameplay refinements based on the original Sonic engine.

The overall goal remains the same: travel through each zone and defeat Dr. Robotnik.

🎨 Visual and Audio Updates

Several presentation elements have been reworked for this project.

You will notice:

• Custom background graphics.
• Different color palettes.
• New music throughout the adventure.
• Updated title presentation.

These changes give the hack its own identity while preserving the classic Genesis style.

🎮 Game Controls

Since this is a Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) ROM, these are the standard controls.

Keyboard Controls

• Arrow Keys – Move
• Z – Button A
• X – Button B
• C – Button C
• Enter – Start
• Shift – Mode (if supported)

Mobile Controls

• Use the on-screen Sega Genesis controls.

📝 Things Worth Knowing

If you already know the original Sonic the Hedgehog, expect familiar zones with noticeable changes. Several layouts differ from the original release, so previous shortcuts may not always exist. Watching how Tails follows your movement is also interesting because the original Sonic the Hedgehog did not include a companion character.
