Sonic – Return to the Origin

Sonic: Return to the Origin is a fan-made game based on Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. The project was created by Mefiresu and was released for the Sonic Hacking Contest 2009. It presents a new adventure with original level layouts, custom graphics, and revised stage designs while using the original Sonic engine.

Instead of modifying only character sprites or gameplay physics, the hack focuses on creating a completely new platforming experience.

🌍 Original Stages From Beginning to End

The game replaces the original Sonic the Hedgehog levels with custom ones.

According to the project's documentation, the hack includes:

• Modified enemy locations

Even if you know the original Sonic the Hedgehog well, you will encounter different routes and platform arrangements throughout the adventure.

These visual updates give the hack its own identity while maintaining the classic 16-bit appearance of the Genesis.

• Collect rings
• Use the Spin Dash
• Discover hidden routes
• Defeat bosses
