Gunstar Super Heroes
About the Game
Gunstar Super Heroes is a Game Boy Advance run-and-gun action game developed by Treasure and published by Sega in 2005. It continues the story of the Sega Genesis classic Gunstar Heroes with a brand-new adventure, original stages, updated combat mechanics, and memorable boss battles. Treasure focused on variety throughout the campaign. Nearly every stage offers something different, which helps the adventure remain enjoyable from beginning to end.
๐ Continue the Gunstar Legacy
Gunstar Super Heroes takes place several years after the events of the original Gunstar Heroes. Peace has returned after the defeat of the God of Ruin, but another powerful organization searches for an ancient artifact capable of reviving that destructive force.
Your mission is to stop this threat before history repeats itself. The story appears through short conversations between stages, so the action remains the main focus.
โ๏ธ Action That Never Slows Down
Each stage offers something different instead of repeating the same formula. During your adventure, you will:
- Run through side-scrolling levels.
- Defeat large groups of enemies.
- Avoid enemy projectiles.
- Face giant bosses.
- Complete six original stages.
Some stages focus on traditional platform action, while others include completely different gameplay sequences.
๐ฏ Choose Your Hero
You can begin the adventure with one of two characters.
Choose between:
- Red
- Blue
Each character includes:
- Different story dialogue
- Different gameplay balance
- Unique story scenes on higher difficulty settings
This gives you a reason to replay the campaign after finishing it once.
๐ฅ Weapons and Combat
Gunstar Super Heroes keeps the series' signature action while changing several mechanics. Combat includes:
- Three primary weapon types
- Close-range melee attacks
- Sliding attacks
- Air attacks
- Quick movement across every stage
Unlike the original Gunstar Heroes, this sequel does not use the classic weapon-combination system. Instead, it uses a simplified weapon selection system.
๐พ Boss Battles Take Center Stage
Treasure has always been known for creative boss encounters. Gunstar Super Heroes continues that tradition. Throughout the game you will battle:
- Massive mechanical enemies
- Multi-phase bosses
- Large enemies that fill most of the screen
- Bosses with unique attack patterns
Many reviews still mention these battles as one of the game's strongest features.
๐จ Excellent Visual Quality on GBA
Treasure pushed the Game Boy Advance hardware impressively. The game includes:
- Detailed sprite animation
- Large character designs
- Rotation effects
- Scaling effects
- Smooth action throughout the campaign
These visuals helped Gunstar Super Heroes become one of the best-looking action games released for the Game Boy Advance.
