About the Game
Pokemon Black & White Advanced is a ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed created by Vytron. The project recreates much of the experience of Pokemon Black Version and Pokemon White Version on the Game Boy Advance. It uses Gen 5-inspired graphics, music, characters, and gameplay systems while keeping the FireRed engine as its foundation.
After reviewing gameplay footage, project notes, and community discussions, the most impressive aspect is how much of the Nintendo DS atmosphere was recreated on GBA hardware.
🌍 Return to the Unova Region
Your journey follows the story structure of Pokemon Black and White.
You begin your adventure with Professor Juniper and select one of the three Unova starter Pokémon.
Starter choices include:
- Snivy
- Tepig
- Oshawott
As you travel across the region, you encounter:
- Gym Leaders
- Team Plasma
- N
- Various rivals and trainers
Many familiar story moments from the Nintendo DS games appear throughout the adventure.
🎮 Modern Features Inside a GBA Engine
This hack updates FireRed with several mechanics from newer Pokémon generations.

These features make battles closer to modern Pokémon games than the original FireRed experience.

🎨 Visual Upgrades Across the Region
One of the major goals of the project was recreating the visual style of Unova.
You will notice:

- Updated Pokémon cries
- Black & White-inspired menus
- Nintendo DS-style environments
These changes make the game look very different from standard FireRed.
🎵 Music and Atmosphere
The soundtrack uses music inspired by Pokemon Black and White.
Several locations use themes that longtime Unova fans will recognize immediately.
The updated audio helps create a stronger connection to the original Nintendo DS games.

A number of quality-of-life features appear throughout the hack.
