About the Game

Pokémon Epoch Emerald is a Pokémon Emerald ROM hack with a stronger focus on difficulty, team building, modern battle mechanics, and extra content. You still explore the Hoenn region, but the adventure has new routes, revised encounters, tougher major battles, a ninth Gym, new legendary hunts, and a larger postgame. The current Version 2.0 also gives you optional settings such as Level Cap, Catch-up EXP, Team EXP Share, Random Starters, and Permadeath.

🗺️ New Routes and Areas

Your journey through Hoenn is not limited to the original Emerald map. Version 2.0 includes new routes, towns, caves, and special areas. The documented locations include:

The developer has also created shortcuts and new routes that reduce some of Hoenn's long water-travel sections. The original water routes still remain part of the main adventure.

⚔️ Major Battles Receive a Serious Rework

Gym Leaders, rivals, Team Aqua and Team Magma leaders, Wally, the Elite Four, Wallace, Steven, and other important opponents receive revised teams.

Their changes can include:

Better movesets
Held items
Improved IVs
Revised abilities
Different battle formats
Higher-quality AI decisions

Selected major fights also use Set-style battle rules. This removes the normal prompt that lets you switch Pokémon after defeating an opponent's Pokémon.

The result is a battle system where your switches and move choices matter more.

🧠 Smarter AI Changes How You Approach Bosses

The AI receives one of the project's most important upgrades.

Major opponents can make better decisions around:

Damage calculations
Potential knockouts
Survival
Type matchups
Immunities
Stat changes
Setup moves
Status effects
Weather
Switching

This matters because difficulty does not depend only on giving an opponent higher-level Pokémon.

You need to consider what the opposing Pokémon can do before choosing your next move.

🐾 A Much Larger Pokémon Selection

Epoch Emerald gives you access to 404 Pokémon in its current Pokédex.

Wild encounters include Pokémon from Generations I, II, and III. The project also includes 18 additional species that were not available in the original Emerald.

Fairy is part of the battle system in Epoch Emerald.

Several Pokémon receive Fairy typing, including Gardevoir, Azumarill, Clefable, Wigglytuff, Granbull, Mawile, and Togekiss.

The Ability Capsule switches between a Pokémon's two available ability slots.

🏆 The Champion's Club Extends the Postgame

The postgame receives a major expansion through the Champion's Club.

After you become Champion and defeat Steven, you can access a new battle series.

The first section contains four consecutive opponents and leads toward the title of Champion of Champions. A second section offers four rotating opponents each in-game day.
