Pokemon Red Ignited

Pokemon Red Ignited is a ROM hack based on Pokémon FireRed by AnthonJohn. It keeps the familiar Kanto storyline but changes many gameplay systems. During my research, one feature stood out immediately: this project does not focus on a brand-new story. Instead, it expands the original FireRed adventure with new mechanics, extra activities, stronger opponents, and a larger selection of Pokémon.

You still travel across Kanto, collect Gym Badges, stop Team Rocket, and battle the Elite Four. The difference comes from the many gameplay changes throughout the journey.

🐉 Starter Choices Look Very Different

One of the first surprises appears before your adventure even begins.

Instead of choosing Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle, you select from:

• Dratini
• Bagon
• Larvitar

All three eventually evolve into powerful pseudo-legendary Pokémon. This completely changes early team planning compared to the original FireRed.

⚔️ More Than Just Gym Battles

Pokemon Red Ignited includes a special Dojo system.

What are Dojos?

Each city that contains a Gym also contains a Dojo. These locations provide additional battles and rewards. You can use them to strengthen your team before facing Gym Leaders.

This feature gives you extra objectives throughout the Kanto region.

🌍 New Features Across Kanto

Several gameplay systems were expanded beyond the original FireRed experience.

Key features include:

• Increased game difficulty
• Fairy-type Pokémon and Fairy-type moves
• Mega Evolutions for selected Pokémon
• Roaming Pokémon encounters
• New locations and areas
• Expanded Pokémon roster
• Updated trainer teams
• Revised evolution methods

Many trainers now use Pokémon from multiple generations instead of the limited FireRed roster.

✨ Fairy Type and Mega Evolution

Pokemon Red Ignited includes mechanics that were not part of the original Game Boy Advance release.

Fairy Type

• Fairy Pokémon appear in the game
• Fairy-type moves are available
• Type matchups reflect Fairy-type mechanics

Mega Evolution

• Certain Pokémon can access Mega Evolutions
• Some Mega forms were custom creations made for the hack

These systems give your team more options during difficult battles.

🚶 Roaming Pokémon Around The World

One feature that makes Red Ignited stand out is the roaming Pokémon system.

You may encounter Pokémon wandering through various areas instead of finding everything through standard wild battles. This creates more opportunities to discover Pokémon during exploration.

📈 Evolution Changes

The hack modifies several evolution methods.

Many Pokémon that originally required:

• Trading
• Evolution stones
• Special methods

now evolve through level progression.

This change makes team building much easier when you play alone on an emulator.
