Pokemon Fusion 3
About the Game
Pokémon Fusion 3 is a Game Boy Advance ROM hack based on Pokémon Emerald that replaces the familiar Hoenn Pokémon roster with more than 160 custom fusion forms. Created by Grillo and Lugre, with Kimba also credited in project documentation, the completed English build was updated on December 24, 2021. The core Hoenn adventure remains in place, but the Pokémon you encounter, train, evolve, and use in battle are changed throughout the game.
If you already know Pokémon Emerald, you will recognize the region, routes, Gym structure, and overall adventure. Your team, however, can look completely different. The hack's main idea centers on custom Pokémon fusions rather than a completely new story.
🧬 A Different Kind of Hoenn Adventure
Pokémon Fusion 3 keeps the Pokémon Emerald foundation while replacing the normal Hoenn encounters with fusion Pokémon.
The documented roster contains 164 new fusions, while several project and video descriptions use the broader figure of 160+ or 170+ depending on how the forms are counted. The safest description is more than 160 documented fusion forms. The custom creatures receive their own game data. This includes:
- Names
- Sprites
- Mini-sprites
- Overworld sprites
- Abilities
- Attacks
- Statistics
- Pokédex descriptions
- Lore
- Shiny forms
- Evolution methods
This means the project goes beyond simply changing a few Pokémon graphics. The fusion roster is the main reason the game plays differently from standard Emerald.
🌿 The Story Stays Close to Pokémon Emerald
You still travel through Hoenn and follow the basic Pokémon Emerald adventure. The available documentation describes the story as basically the same as Emerald. The major change comes from the Pokémon roster rather than a completely new campaign. You can therefore expect the familiar Emerald structure:
- Start your journey in Hoenn.
- Collect Gym Badges.
- Build a team around the available fusion Pokémon.
- Progress through the region.
- Take on the Elite Four.
- Continue toward the game's major legendary events.
The hack is not built around a new region or a completely rewritten narrative. Its focus stays on changing your Pokémon adventure through the fusion system.
🔥 Your Team Can Look Nothing Like Emerald
One of the best parts of Fusion 3 is the way it changes team building.
A familiar Emerald route no longer guarantees the same Pokémon choices. You need to inspect the fusion Pokémon you encounter and learn what each one can do.
The documented Pokédex contains fusion lines such as:
- Cateon → Metaneon → Buttineon
- Azudgey → Marillotto → Azudgeot
- Sandxew → Sandxure → Haxslash
- Tyran → Tyradino → Tyranking
- Gastcoly → Haunkol → Gengossal
- Mareepede → Flaapede → Scolpharos
- Larvestar → Pupestar → Volcanitar
- Riorua → Lucaroark
- Spheaburr → Sealdurr → Walkedurr
- Litdum → Lampang → Chandegros
The complete Pokédex video from Genosii documents more than 160 forms, their locations, and their evolution methods.
⚔️ Battle Mechanics Stay Rooted in Gen 3
The underlying battle system remains based on Pokémon Emerald. You still rely on:
- Type matchups
- Move selection
- Abilities
- Base statistics
- Status effects
- Held items
- Evolution
- Team composition
- Experience and level growth
There is an important limitation if you normally play newer Pokémon games. Community testing reports that Fusion 3 does not use the later physical/special split. The Gen 3 move classification remains relevant to battles.
This matters when you build a moveset. You cannot assume that a move's physical or special category works the same way as it does in later generations.
🧪 Custom Pokémon Have Their Own Statistics
The fusion Pokémon are not only visual combinations. Project documentation states that each fusion has its own attacks, abilities, statistics, Pokédex information, and lore. That gives you a reason to examine every new capture.
A fusion may have a typing or ability that you did not expect from its appearance. Community discussion also shows that discovering unfamiliar typings and abilities was part of the experience for people playing the English version. For this reason, an Emerald team guide does not automatically work for Fusion 3.
🌙 Day and Night Change the Routine
Fusion 3 includes a day/night system. This is one of the documented changes from standard Emerald and is part of the hack's broader set of quality-of-life and presentation changes.
The hack also requires a real-time clock for certain functions documented by ROM-hack sources. One example is the Trade Stone cheat, which specifically requires the RTC.
If you play through an emulator, correct RTC support is therefore worth checking when a time-based feature does not behave as expected.
🎵 A Different Soundtrack
The hack uses a Pokémon Platinum-style soundtrack, according to its documented feature list. This gives the audio presentation a different identity from the original Pokémon Emerald soundtrack.
The change is useful if you have already spent a lot of time with Emerald and want a familiar Hoenn adventure with a different audio presentation.
📊 Check Your IVs and EVs
Fusion 3 includes an IV/EV checker. This is useful if you care about the statistical side of Pokémon training. You can inspect information about your Pokémon instead of relying entirely on external calculations.
The feature fits the custom roster well because the fusion Pokémon do not always behave exactly as you might expect from their visual designs.
🎯 Catching Pokémon Can Give Experience
Fusion 3 also includes experience for catching Pokémon. This is listed among the hack's documented features. That gives you another way to gain experience while filling your collection.
It also supports the central idea of the hack. You have more reason to investigate new encounters instead of ignoring unfamiliar Pokémon.
✨ Shiny Forms Get Custom Treatment
The fusion roster includes shiny forms. The project documentation also lists custom sprites, icons, cries, and overworld representations.
The Pokédex documentation shows how broad the custom artwork is. The hack contains multiple forms and evolution stages rather than a small selection of modified sprites.
👑 Legendary Pokémon Are Part of the Fusion Concept
The fusion system does not stop with ordinary Pokémon. The project documentation states that Hoenn's legendary Pokémon receive fusion forms, and legendary events remain available. The documented Pokédex includes examples such as:
- Latisselia
- Latikrai
- Kyalga
- Groalkia
- Raytina
- Calychi
These names appear in the complete Fusion 3 Pokédex coverage. This gives the later portions of the adventure their own set of fusion discoveries.
🗺️ Exploration Has More Unfamiliar Encounters
The Hoenn map remains familiar, but your expectations about encounters change. You may recognize a route from Emerald, yet the Pokémon available there can be completely different.
That creates a simple reason to explore again. You cannot rely entirely on your old Emerald encounter list.
Genosii's Fusion 3 Pokédex documentation specifically records wild locations and evolution methods for the fusion forms.
🥊 Gym Battles Still Matter
The eight Gym Leaders remain part of the adventure. Gameplay coverage documents all eight Gym battles in Fusion 3. The opponents use the hack's fusion roster, so your preparation can differ from a normal Emerald run.
Community reports also show that some Gym encounters can use unusual fusion typings. One Reddit playthrough report, for example, mentions a third Gym ace with an Electric/Dragon typing at level 25.
That is a good example of why you should inspect the Pokémon you face rather than assume that standard Emerald type knowledge will always be enough.
🧠 You Need to Learn the New Pokédex
One community complaint was the lack of easy documentation for fusion types, abilities, and origins when the English version first circulated. A Reddit discussion specifically mentions uncertainty around changed Pokémon types and abilities.
Later documentation helped with this problem. The complete Pokédex video lists more than 160 forms and gives locations and evolution methods. That makes the hack easier to study today than it was when early English-version discussions appeared.
🎥 What Long Gameplay Sessions Show
YouTube coverage gives useful evidence about the game's scope. Zwiggo published a long-form video after playing Fusion 3 for 100 hours. The video includes goals such as obtaining a shiny fusion and raising a Pokémon to level 100.
That coverage is useful because it shows that the fusion roster supports a longer playthrough rather than functioning as a short sprite showcase. The existence of dedicated Nuzlocke coverage also shows that the hack works with stricter self-imposed rules.
💬 What the Community Says
Community reactions tend to focus on the same central point: the fusion Pokémon are the reason to play this hack. People who already know Emerald can recognize the basic route and story. The unfamiliar Pokémon then change how they build a team and prepare for battles.
The community also points out some limitations. The missing physical/special split is one example. Another is the early lack of detailed documentation for the custom Pokémon.
Those points are important if you want a hack with modern battle mechanics or extensive story changes. Fusion 3 is more focused on its custom Pokémon concept.
