Pokemon Ghost Grey
About the Game
Pokémon Ghost Grey is a Game Boy Advance adventure set in Kanto in the year 2049. The region has fallen into decay and is heavily dominated by Ghost-type Pokémon. You work through the main story, earn seven badges, build your team, and continue into post-game content after the main journey. Version 1.0.1 is the current documented version.
🌑 Kanto, 2049
The setting gives Kanto a very different atmosphere from its familiar form. Towns, routes, characters, and locations have a darker visual identity.
Your journey follows a full campaign with secrets to discover and post-game content after the main objective. Seven badges form the main progression before the Champion stage.
👻 A Pokédex Dominated by Ghost Types
Ghost-type Pokémon are the central theme of your collection.
The documented Version 1.0.1 Pokédex contains 200 entries plus off-dex species. The published feature list describes more than 200 Ghost Pokémon and over 120 regional variants.
Three starter choices
You can begin with:
- Rowlet — Grass/Ghost
- Litwick — Fire/Ghost
- Spiritle — Water/Ghost
The Ghost Grey documentation lists their evolution lines as Rowlet → Dartrix → Decidueye, Litwick → Lampent → Chandelure, and Spiritle → Wickortle → Lichtoise.
⚔️ Battles Use Updated Rules
The battle system uses several mechanics beyond the standard GBA rules.
Key changes include:
- Fairy type is present.
- Physical and Special moves are separated by move category.
- More recent abilities and items are available.
- Choice Scarf and Eviolite are among the included items.
- Ghost-versus-Ghost damage uses a 1.5× multiplier.
- Steel resists Ghost.
- Psychic is not weak to Ghost.
- Fairy resists Dragon but does not have a Dragon immunity.
- Dark Pulse and Crunch have 70 power instead of 80.
These rules matter when you build your team and select moves for important battles.
🧪 Special Moves to Learn
Several moves have been created specifically for the game's battle system.
Purify
- Physical Psychic-type move.
- Applies Foresight when it hits.
Shatterpoint
- Physical Psychic-type move.
- Takes the place of Brick Break.
Soul Shift
- Psychic-type move with a U-turn-style effect.
Jumpscare
- Ghost-type move with a Fake Out-style effect.
The Version 1.0.1 documentation also lists moves such as Dazzle, Soul Shift, Shatterpoint, and other updated attacks in individual Pokémon learnsets.
📊 Training Works Differently
Ghost Grey removes several traditional Pokémon training systems.
- Pokémon do not gain EVs.
- IVs are set to 0.
- Hidden Power is not used.
- Eggs and breeding are not present.
- Battle-based EV training is therefore not part of team building.
This gives you a simpler way to focus on Pokémon selection, moves, abilities, and battle strategy.
🎒 Useful Items and Quality-of-Life Systems
Several systems reduce the amount of repetitive preparation required during your journey.
Rare Candy
An unlimited-use Rare Candy Key Item is available for quick level management.
The Fight Club
A dedicated grinding area provides another way to level your Pokémon.
Reusable TMs
TMs can be used repeatedly.
HM Changes
HMs can be forgotten, while their battle functions have also been adjusted.
Other helpful items
EXP-boosting and ability-changing items are available. The Pokédex also provides more information than a basic species list, including abilities and base stats.
🗺️ Secrets Beyond the Main Path
Your journey is not limited to the seven-badge progression.
The game includes hidden discoveries, additional areas, and post-game content after the main campaign. The published feature information specifically describes a complete adventure with secrets and post-game content.
If you enjoy checking side areas and unusual locations, exploring beyond the obvious route is worthwhile because some discoveries are not part of the main progression.
