Pokemon Soulgold
About the Game
Pokemon SoulGold is a Game Boy Advance game created by rahtak. It is built on the open-source Pokémon Heart & Soul project, which recreates the Johto adventure on the Pokémon Emerald engine. SoulGold expands that foundation with new content, additional gameplay systems, and modern Pokémon mechanics. The project is currently available as a beta release, so future versions may include more content and refinements.
You still explore Johto, catch Pokémon, earn Gym Badges, and battle Team Rocket, but the hack includes several optional systems that were never part of the original Game Boy games.
🌄 Explore an Expanded Johto
SoulGold follows the Johto storyline familiar to Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver. The hack also expands the region with additional locations and redesigned areas. Some highlights include:
- An expanded Johto map.
- New routes and optional locations.
- Updated overworld graphics.
- More areas to explore throughout the adventure.
The project uses the Pokémon Emerald engine while recreating the Johto experience.
⭐ Nine Starter Pokémon
One of the first differences appears at the beginning of your adventure. Instead of selecting from only three starter Pokémon, you can choose from nine different starters. This gives you more team-building options before your journey begins.
⚔️ Modern Gameplay Systems
SoulGold includes several mechanics that originate from later Pokémon generations. Documented features include:
- Mega Evolution.
- Mega Stones.
- Hidden Abilities.
- Pokémon from multiple generations.
- Updated battle mechanics based on modern Pokémon games.
These features work alongside the traditional turn-based battle system instead of replacing it.
🌿 Hidden Grottos and Exploration Rewards
Exploration plays a larger role than in the original Johto games. The hack includes:
- Daily Hidden Grottos.
- More than 100 achievements.
- Trophy collection.
- Optional rewards across the region.
Hidden Grottos reset after a period of time, giving you another reason to revisit previous locations.
🏆 More Activities Beyond the Main Story
SoulGold contains additional content outside the Gym challenge. Examples include:
- Battle facilities that use Pokémon from multiple generations.
- Expanded post-game progression.
- Optional collectible achievements.
- Additional exploration objectives.
These activities continue after you finish the main Johto storyline.
