Pokemon TCG Recall
About the Game
Pokémon TCG Recall is a Game Boy Color card-battle adventure where your evolved Pokémon can use attacks and Pokémon Powers from their earlier evolutionary stages. You still use the established card pool from the base game, but the battle system gives evolution a new strategic purpose. From a gameplay-analysis perspective, this inherited-attack system is the key detail you should understand before building your deck.
🃏 A New Way to Use Evolution
The main battle mechanic centers on evolutionary continuity.
When you evolve a Pokémon, you can access attacks and Pokémon Powers from its earlier stages through new menu options. This applies to evolved Pokémon throughout the game.
For example, early testing has reported useful combinations such as:
- Poliwrath using Amnesia from Poliwhirl.
- Gyarados using Flail from Magikarp.
- Magneton using Selfdestruct from an earlier stage.
- Rhydon using Leer from Rhyhorn.
- Gengar using Dream Eater from an earlier stage.
- Machamp gaining access to a cheaper attack from its earlier evolutionary line.
- Pidgeot gaining more options through its earlier stages.
⚔️ Your Deck Still Uses Familiar Cards
The card pool remains the same as the base Game Boy TCG. You do not need to learn an entirely new collection before understanding the main mechanic.
Your deck still uses Pokémon, Energy, and Trainer cards. The major difference comes from how your evolved Pokémon can use their earlier attacks and Powers.
What this means for your deck:
- Evolution lines can have more strategic value.
- Earlier-stage attacks can remain useful after evolution.
- Energy requirements still matter.
- Your choice of evolutionary line can affect your available attacks.
- Familiar cards can work in new combinations.
🎴 Better Starting Deck Options
Your opening deck setup has also been changed.
The available starting decks have been improved, and you begin with a large supply of Energy cards across the different colors. The opening tutorial battle is also skipped.
This gives you earlier access to the main card-battle experience.
The original Game Boy TCG uses a progression based around deck building, Club battles, Master Medals, and stronger opponents.
🏆 The Classic Card-Battle Structure
The underlying adventure still follows the familiar structure of the Game Boy Pokémon Trading Card Game.
🏛️ Clubs and Progression
The Game Boy TCG campaign includes these eight Clubs:
- Fighting Club
- Lightning Club
- Water Club
- Grass Club
- Science Club
- Fire Club
- Psychic Club
- Rock Club
You earn Master Medals through the Club progression. The Grand Masters are part of the later campaign.
