About the Game
Pokémon The Corrupted Wishes is a Pokémon FireRed game created by Fencer. It takes place in a different universe from the original Pokémon story and introduces a new region, new characters, and a different adventure.
You play as Noire, a boy who has lived with Froakie since childhood. The Purla Pokémon League has opened to challengers, giving Noire and his childhood friend Julia a chance to pursue their dream of becoming Pokémon Champions.
🌟 A Different Pokémon Story
The story revolves around a mysterious wish granted by Jirachi.
According to the game's backstory:
- Jirachi has the power to grant wishes.
- People have wished for things such as success and love.
- One man made a wish based on a broken desire.
- Jirachi granted the wish.
- The nature of that wish remains unknown.
- The game refers to it as a corrupted wish.
Your journey starts when you receive a Pokédex from Professor Kao. The story goes beyond simply collecting Gym Badges and reaching the Pokémon League.
🗺️ Explore the Purla Region
The hack introduces a new region instead of using the original Kanto map.
As you progress, you encounter new locations and Gym Leaders. Gameplay footage from the available release shows battles against Gym Leader Natalie, a Water-type specialist.
The available version also includes locations such as:
- Purla Pokémon League
- Fortblaz Tunnel
- Lablaz Town
The later parts of the available build were not fully finished. Gameplay footage of the beta ends at an unfinished section of Lablaz Town.
🐸 Froakie Starts the Adventure
Noire has lived with Froakie since childhood, which makes the Pokémon an important part of his backstory.
The hack also expands the available Pokémon selection beyond the original FireRed Pokédex.
You can encounter Pokémon from:
- Generation 1
- Generation 2
- Generation 3
- Generation 4
- Generation 5
- Generation 6
- Generation 7
The game uses a custom Pokédex for these Pokémon.
⚔️ A Harder Pokémon Experience
The creator designed the hack with a higher difficulty level than standard FireRed.
One unusual restriction is the size of your active team:
- You can use only three Pokémon.
- Gym access requires you to have exactly three Pokémon.
- The level curve was designed to provide a harder experience.
This restriction makes team selection more important than in the original FireRed.
⚙️ Updated Pokémon Mechanics
The hack changes several mechanics from the original FireRed system.
Some documented changes include:
- Black & White-style Repel system
- Poison survival at 1 HP
- Updated moves
- Updated abilities
- Custom Pokémon selection
- DS-style Pokémon sprites
- Minor tileset changes
- A day-and-night system
The game also uses largely decapitalized text instead of the capitalization style found in the original FireRed.
🎨 DS-Style Pokémon Sprites
The visual presentation uses DS-style 64×64 Pokémon sprites.
This gives Pokémon a different appearance from the original FireRed sprites while keeping the basic GBA presentation.
The project credits several community resources for its Pokémon, trainer, overworld, tile, music, and sprite assets.
🏆 Gym Battles
Gym battles are an important part of Noire's journey toward the Purla Pokémon League.
The available gameplay footage shows Natalie, a Water-type Gym Leader, as the second Gym Leader.
The documented Alpha 2.1 release had progression through three Gym battles, while the creator planned a later release that would extend the story through the fifth Gym.
🐛 Known Issue in Alpha 2.1
The Alpha 2.1 release has a documented problem with one move:
- Roost can freeze the game.
The creator specifically advised players not to use Roost in that version. Grammar errors were also acknowledged.
🎮 Game Controls
Because The Corrupted Wishes is based on Pokémon FireRed, it uses the standard Game Boy Advance Pokémon controls.
