About the Game
Touhoumon HeartGold is a Pokémon HeartGold ROM hack that replaces every Pokémon with characters from the Touhou Project series. The original Johto and Kanto adventure remains intact, but nearly every battle, encounter, and team-building decision changes because of the new Puppet roster, custom type system, and updated gameplay mechanics.
🌸 A Touhou-Themed Journey Across Johto
Your adventure follows the same main story as Pokémon HeartGold. You begin in New Bark Town, travel across Johto, collect Gym Badges, battle Team Rocket, defeat the Pokémon League, and later unlock the Kanto region.
The biggest difference appears during every encounter. Instead of Pokémon, you collect Touhou Puppets based on characters from the Touhou Project series.
🧸 Collect Hundreds of Touhou Puppets
Every Pokémon species has been replaced with a Puppet. Each Puppet includes:
- Custom battle sprites
- Custom overworld graphics
- Different battle roles
- New evolution options
- Shiny versions
The completed roster includes characters from the Touhou Project series through Touhou 18, with the exception noted by the developer.
⚡ A Different Element System
The traditional Pokémon type chart no longer exists. Touhoumon HeartGold uses its own elemental system. Examples of available types:
- Heart
- Faith
- Dream
- Beast
- Nature
- Earth
- Wind
- Reason
Gym battles and trainer battles follow these new matchups, so learning the type chart becomes an important part of your adventure.

Several quality-of-life upgrades make the adventure smoother than the original Pokémon HeartGold.

These improvements reduce many limitations found in the original Nintendo DS release.
🎵 Music Throughout the Adventure
The soundtrack contains several battle themes inspired by the Touhou Project series. Many battle tracks have been replaced with Pokémon-style arrangements of Touhou music. These songs match the game's crossover theme while keeping the classic Nintendo DS atmosphere.
🏆 Continue After the Main Story
The adventure does not end after the Pokémon League. Post-game content includes:
- Full Kanto region
- Battle Frontier
- More Puppets to collect
- Additional trainer battles
The Battle Frontier is fully supported in this ROM hack.
