Rouge in Sonic 1
About the Game
Like playing with Sonic? Well, here is a brand new game that features him, not exactly. Youโve already played the popular Sonic the Hedgehog game, this time youโll be playing it as Rogue the bat and not Sonic! Finish all the levels by going through all the obstacles that come in your way. Take on the role of this treasure hunter and finish the game.
For those who donโt know Rouge, he is an anthropomorphic bat who has some subtle female features. This version is the same as the original game, but with better compatibility of its sprites. The bat has some great fighting abilities, such as performing a flawless superkick and more.
๐ฆ Play Through a Classic as Rouge
The game follows the same adventure found in the original Sonic the Hedgehog.
You travel through familiar locations such as:
- Green Hill Zone
- Marble Zone
- Spring Yard Zone
- Labyrinth Zone
- Star Light Zone
- Scrap Brain Zone
The objective remains unchanged. You collect rings, avoid hazards, defeat enemies, and stop Dr. Robotnik's plans.
๐จ What Has Been Changed?
This game focuses primarily on character replacement.
Key modifications include:
- Rouge the Bat replaces Sonic.
- Character sprites have been redrawn to resemble Rouge.
- Original Sonic 1 stages remain intact.
- Classic enemies and bosses are unchanged.
- The original story structure remains the same.
Most versions of this hack retain Sonic's movement physics. Rouge controls similarly to Sonic throughout the game.
โญ Why Fans Created This Hack
Rouge became a popular character after her debut in Sonic Adventure 2 and later appearances in games such as:
- Sonic Heroes
- Shadow the Hedgehog
- Sonic the Hedgehog
Classic Sonic gameers often create character swaps that place newer Sonic characters into older Genesis titles. Rouge in Sonic 1 is one example of that type of project.

๐ About Rouge the Bat
Rouge is a government agent and treasure hunter in the Sonic series. She is well known for her interest in jewels, especially large gems such as the Master Emerald.
This hack does not create a new storyline around Rouge. Instead, it places her into Sonic's role throughout the original game.
