Sonic the Hedgehog – The Lost Worlds is a fan-made ROM hack based on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. The project was created by ExecByte and focuses on restoring and recreating several zones that were removed during the development of Sonic 2. Instead of following the original Sonic 2 stage progression, you travel through locations that many Sonic fans only knew from prototypes, design documents, and early development materials.

Many Sonic fans spent years researching the unused stages that never appeared in the final release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. This ROM hack takes those ideas and turns them into playable levels.
