Toad’s World 2
About the Game
Toad's World 2 is a Super Mario World ROM hack by Ice Man with 65 exits, custom physics, new worlds, Toad's Coins, heart collectibles, custom sprites, new music and a story centered on Toad and Toadette. The hack first appeared in December 2024 and is designed for the SNES/Super Famicom version of Super Mario World.
๐ Toad's Story Continues
After Toad defeats an evil wizard, he returns to the Mushroom Kingdom. A few weeks later, Toad decides to confess his feelings to Toadette.
Before he can do so, Toadette disappears.
Toad then sets out to find her and discover what happened. This story gives the sequel a clear purpose and separates it from a standard Super Mario World level hack.
The game uses Toad as the main character instead of Mario. The adventure also includes Toad-themed collectibles and other custom elements.
๐ Ten Worlds and 65 Exits
There is a lot to explore across the full adventure. Current database information lists 65 exits, while coverage of the hack describes a structure of 10 worlds.
Alternate exits matter here. You can finish a stage without necessarily finding everything inside it.
Your completion goals include:
- Finding all 65 exits
- Collecting Toad's Coins
- Searching for heart collectibles
- Discovering alternate routes
- Completing the world map
This structure gives you reasons to revisit stages after reaching their normal exits.
๐จ Custom Graphics Give Toad's Adventure Its Own Identity
The hack uses custom sprites and artwork rather than relying entirely on the original Super Mario World presentation.
Several sources describe the visual style as influenced by the New Super Mario Bros. series. HDMA effects also appear throughout the game. You still get the unmistakable SNES look of Super Mario World, but the custom assets give the stages a different visual character.
๐ต The Soundtrack Goes Beyond Super Mario World
Music is another area where Ice Man made substantial changes. Toad's World 2 uses custom music along with tracks associated with other games in the Mario series and other video games.
This gives different worlds their own musical identity and keeps the soundtrack from relying solely on the original SNES score.
๐งฉ Gimmicks Matter in the Level Design
The stages use numerous gameplay gimmicks. These are not limited to cosmetic changes. The hack uses custom level mechanics, altered physics and different stage setups to create situations that do not appear in the original Super Mario World.
The variety matters because the adventure spans 10 worlds. You are not simply playing the same type of stage repeatedly with different graphics.
๐พ A Helpful Save and Checkpoint System
One feature received positive attention from community discussion: saving is available in all stages, and checkpoints can remain after a Game Over.
That is useful in a hack with 65 exits and custom physics. If you lose a life during a difficult section, you do not necessarily have to repeat everything from the start of the stage.
