Doom 64
About the Game
DOOM 64 is a first-person shooter released for the Nintendo 64 in 1997. It was developed by Midway Studios San Diego and continues the story of DOOM II with an entirely new campaign. Although many people once believed it was simply a Nintendo 64 port, it is actually a separate game with original levels, redesigned enemies, new visuals, and its own soundtrack. DOOM 64 stands apart because of its darker atmosphere. It keeps the classic combat that made the series famous while presenting Hell in a very different style.
๐ฅ Continue the Story After DOOM II
DOOM 64 takes place after the ending of DOOM II. The story follows the Doom Marine as he returns to Mars after a powerful demon known as the Mother of Demons begins reviving Hell's army. Your mission is straightforward.
- Enter abandoned UAC facilities.
- Defeat countless demons.
- Stop the Mother of Demons.
- Prevent another invasion of Earth.
The story remains simple, but it fits perfectly with the classic DOOM formula.
โ๏ธ Classic Combat With New Elements
Combat follows the familiar style of earlier DOOM games. During your adventure, you will:
- Defeat large groups of demons.
- Search for colored keycards.
- Discover hidden rooms.
- Activate switches.
- Find the exit in every level.
Movement and quick reactions remain important throughout the campaign.
๐ฅ Weapons You Can Collect
Most iconic DOOM weapons return. Your arsenal includes:
- Chainsaw
- Pistol
- Shotgun
- Super Shotgun
- Chaingun
- Rocket Launcher
- Plasma Rifle
- BFG 9000
DOOM 64 also includes the Unmaker, an exclusive energy weapon. Hidden Demon Keys increase its power, making it one of the strongest weapons in the game.
๐ A Different Style From Earlier DOOM Games
One feature makes DOOM 64 instantly recognizable. Instead of heavy metal music, composer Aubrey Hodges created a dark ambient soundtrack filled with echoes and unsettling sound effects. The environments also use:
- Colored lighting
- Dark corridors
- Shadow-filled rooms
- New monster artwork
- Updated weapon sprites
These visual and audio changes create an atmosphere unlike the earlier DOOM games.
๐บ๏ธ Explore More Than 30 Original Levels
Every stage in DOOM 64 was created specifically for this game. You will discover:
- Secret passages
- Hidden switches
- Moving platforms
- Environmental traps
- Maze-like layouts
Exploration is just as important as combat because many secrets contain powerful weapons, health, or armor.
