Pokemon RBY Nova
About the Game
Pokémon RBY Nova is a Game Boy title that retains the Kanto adventure while changing several gameplay systems. You can collect up to 190 Generation 1-related Pokémon, choose between Classic and Modern battle versions, and use several quality-of-life options during your journey.
🗺️ Your Kanto Journey
Your adventure follows the familiar Kanto structure.
The main storyline remains mostly recognizable, but the progression is streamlined. Major encounters have revised levels and battle setups, so your journey does not follow the exact balance of the original experience.
The project is currently listed as complete at version 1.0.3. Future revisions are described as bug fixes or small updates.
🐾 190 Pokémon to Collect
One of the biggest changes is the expanded Pokémon selection.
You can obtain 190 Generation 1-related Pokémon on one save. The selection includes additional evolutionary stages and some newer regional variants.
You do not need trading to complete the full 190-Pokémon collection. The creator also confirmed that traditional trade-based evolutions use level or Stone evolution methods instead.
Collection highlights
- 190 Pokémon are obtainable.
- The full collection can be completed on one save.
- Trade-based evolution is not required.
- Level and Stone methods replace the traditional trade requirement.
- Mew can be obtained during the game.
⚔️ Classic or Modern Battles?
You have two documented gameplay versions to choose from.
Classic
Classic keeps the original move pool intact. It is designed for a battle system that stays closer to the original Generation 1 structure.
Modern
Modern provides more than 70 additional moves. These moves give you a larger selection of attacks and effects during battles.
Your choice therefore changes the available battle options throughout the adventure.
📈 A Revised Level Curve
The game receives a complete balance pass.
The project documentation states that the level progression has been streamlined for more sensible progression. Major battles also receive revisions.
You can therefore expect trainer levels and important encounters to differ from the original Kanto balance.
🏆 More to Do After the Main Adventure
Your journey does not end with the main storyline.
The documented post-game includes:
- Two new areas.
- Gym Leader rematches.
- Pokémon League rematches.
- Additional exploration.
- Further post-game content.
The official project description confirms these additions, although it does not provide a complete public breakdown of every post-game encounter.
