About the Game
The fastest superstar in the animation world, Sonic the Hedgehog has made his return with this new game called Sonic Reverse Curse. The blue speedster has been cursed, which is why he needs your help to collect all the golden rings! First youโll have to collect just 5 golden rings, but avoid all the other things that come in your way.
The biggest twist about the game is that every time Sonic collects a ring, instead of increasing, the ring counter decreases. Quite confusing right? Which is why, weโre inviting you to clear his confusion and help him out of this mess. Good luck to you!
๐ด A Simple Rule Changes Everything
If you have played the original Sonic the Hedgehog, your first instinct is to collect every ring. Sonic Reverse Curse asks you to avoid that habit.
You begin each level with 5 rings. From that point onward:
- Every collected ring decreases your ring count.
- Touching a ring when your count reaches 0 causes an instant death.
- Many familiar routes become risky because rings now act as hazards instead of protection.
๐ก๏ธ Items Have New Purposes
Several item monitors work differently to match the reverse ring system.
| Item | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Shield Monitor | Protects you from cursed rings. Rings no longer reduce your ring count while the shield remains active. |
| Invincibility Monitor | Changes cursed rings into normal rings for a short time. |
| Reset Monitor | Restores your ring count to 5 and removes your current shield. |
| Emerald Monitor | Hidden in each main act. Reach the goal after breaking it to earn a Chaos Emerald. |
These changes make item monitors much more valuable than in the original game.
๐ Chaos Emerald Collection
Special Stages do not work like they do in the original Sonic the Hedgehog.
Each regular act hides an Emerald Monitor. Break it and complete the act without losing a life to collect that Chaos Emerald.
There are 18 Emerald Monitors throughout the game for full completion, although only six Chaos Emeralds are required to reach the good ending.
โ๏ธ Boss Acts
Every zone includes a dedicated Boss Act.
These short stages contain cursed rings, platforming sections, and a battle against Dr. Eggman. Some Boss Acts also hide an extra life for careful exploration.
โจ Improvements in the Retro Engine Version
The Retro Engine remake includes several quality-of-life improvements.
Highlights include:
- Red rings clearly identify cursed rings.
- Yellow rings show purified rings.
- Elemental Shields are available from the start.
- Emerald Tracker appears on the Stage Select screen after completing a save file.
- Boss Attack mode lets you replay every Boss Act.
- Several gameplay improvements and visual polish.
