Sonic the Hedgehog Thrash

Sonic the Hedgehog Thrash is a classic retro Sonic platform game game based on Sonic the Hedgehog 2. This version uses a modified engine with custom zones and different movement physics. You control Sonic the Hedgehog through original stages filled with traps and enemies created by Doctor Eggman. The graphics follow the 16-bit style from Sega consoles.

🦔 Built on the Sonic 2 Engine

Although the project started as a Sonic 1 modification, later versions were developed using the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 engine and the Sonic 2 Clone Driver. This allowed the creator to implement additional features and gameplay changes beyond the original concept.

The game remains a side-scrolling platformer where your objective is to guide Sonic through a series of zones while collecting Rings and defeating enemies.

🎨 More Than a Simple Visual Edit

Sonic the Hedgehog Thrash includes modifications in several areas:

• Custom graphics
• Modified level layouts
• Audio changes
• Engine adjustments
• Revised stage design

Sonic Retro classifies the project as a hack with visual, audio, layout, and engine modifications rather than a simple graphics replacement.

🌎 Redesigned Stages

The levels differ from those found in the original Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

During your adventure you will encounter:

• Altered terrain layouts
• Different platform arrangements
• Modified enemy placement
• New visual themes in some areas

Because of these changes, prior knowledge of Sonic 2 does not always guarantee the fastest route through a stage.

🔵 Playable Knuckles

One noteworthy feature mentioned in the project's documentation is the inclusion of Knuckles the Echidna as a playable character.

Knuckles uses abilities associated with his later Genesis appearances, giving you another way to approach certain sections of the game.

🎵 Changes to the Presentation

The hack does not limit itself to gameplay modifications.

Community documentation and archived releases note that the game includes:

• Music changes
• Visual redesigns
• Custom art assets
• Sprite modifications

These adjustments help create an identity separate from standard Sonic 2.
