Pokemon Omniversal Emerald
About the Game
Pokemon Omniversal Emerald is a Pokémon Emerald ROM hack built on the decomp version of the original Game Boy Advance game. It keeps the Hoenn adventure at its core but changes the world with a crossover inspired by the Ben 10 universe. The project includes hundreds of custom Pokémon forms, new battle mechanics, expanded locations, and several quality-of-life improvements that differ from the original Pokémon Emerald.
🌍 A Different Version of Hoenn
The adventure still takes place in the Hoenn region, but the story follows a different direction. According to the project's official description:
- A mysterious comet passes over Hoenn.
- Many Pokémon transform into new forms.
- Most redesigned Pokémon take inspiration from Ben 10 aliens.
- You can begin your journey as Ben or Gwen.
- Your goal still includes exploring Hoenn and completing the Pokédex, but many encounters differ from the original Emerald.
⚔️ Battle Mechanics That Go Beyond Emerald
Pokemon Omniversal Emerald changes several battle systems without removing the original turn-based formula. Some confirmed mechanics include:
- Over 400 custom Pokémon forms
- New custom abilities
- Innate Ability system
- Expanded starter selection
- Level cap system
- Cap Candy progression
- Randomized trainer teams
- DexNav support
The Innate Ability system deserves special attention. Public developer information explains that this mechanic takes inspiration from projects such as Pokémon Elite Redux and PokéRogue. Many Pokémon receive passive effects in addition to their standard Ability, which creates different battle strategies compared to the original Emerald.
🧬 Ben 10-Inspired Pokémon Forms
This ROM hack stands apart because of its crossover theme. Instead of replacing only a handful of Pokémon, the developers redesigned hundreds of species. You will notice:
- Alien-inspired artwork
- New typings for many Pokémon
- Different battle roles
- Updated abilities
- Original sprite work
🗺️ Explore Familiar Areas With New Surprises
Hoenn remains the main region, but several locations receive noticeable upgrades. Confirmed improvements include:
- Expanded maps
- New encounter areas
- Updated environments
- ORAS-inspired Mauville City recreated for the GBA engine
